Beetleback: The coating that combines outstanding corrosion protection and unique iridescent finish
Beetleback, also known as Armourcote 3300, is a non-toxic electrodeposited coating developed by Surface Technology.
An alternative to zinc, Beetleback gives a finish that’s similar to the black iridescent colour of a Beetle’s shell.
A coating that we’ve offered through our Leeds and East Kilbride sites for some years, Beetleback is proven across thousands of parts and components; providing a robust corrosion-resistant coating to protect against the effects of white and red corrosion.
Corrosion protection properties superior to zinc
Numerous laboratory tests, conducted in the Surface Technology lab and by numerous end-users, have shown that Beetleback exhibits a 100% improvement in corrosion resistance when compared to conventional zinc. Physical properties of Beetleback are at least equal, if not superior to acid zinc.

In Graph 1 the effect of increasing cobalt content of the unpassivated alloy on the onset of red rust is shown. The spread of red rust has also been found to be retarded to a large extent by the alloy composition in Graph 2.
The resistance of passivated Beetleback to white and red corrosion is illustrated in Graph 3.
